I have spent the past 43 years in Law enforcement with State and County Agencies in Missouri. I was fortunate to even serve as the Director of Public Safety over all Public Safety Agencies in Missouri for four years. We too have had those small local departments that set up money making operations that undermined the true purpose of traffic enforcement and law enforcement. I had the distinct experience of being a recipient of a ticket for running a red light. I too believe the light sequence is not standard and the changes occurs so fast that being close to the intersection doesn't provide adequate time to get stopped.
I hope the funds are well spent and the perpetrators enjoy their loot.
CAMERA SYSTEM to be removed period. The light near Walmart simply goes to yellow right away red! I drove my 18 wheeler through there and got a ticket for running red light! REVENUE SCAM! I had a heavy load and was trying to be safe and instead of slamming on my breaks and slinging the load every where I figured I had enough time still to make it.. upon the light turning yellow but this isn't no regular yellow light! It was if someone was watching me approach the light lol...So instead of thinking like a truck driver thinking about my heavy load they decided to just give me a ticket! It must be all about the money. Don't worry about my 20 years of safe driving just to put a bad Mark on a good record! It wasn't like I was flying through there. I was going below the speed limit! Damned if do Damned if you don't!
The purpose of laws are to address specific events and actions that endanger public safety when wantonly disregarded. Just to set a system to increase the city's coffers is just highway robbery.
To address our renegade departments operating on Federal and State Highways a statue was passed that required that 50 percent of the fines and collected by those departments on those roads had to be given to the county school system. Because of that requirement one police agency closed down.
I am glad to see that there have been restrictions limiting the maximum amount that can be assessed for the red light cameras tickets. Thank State Legislators for your concern for the citizens because the local officials apparently don't.
